Hi guys!

Decided I wanted to do a little monthly roundup of some of my favorite Instagram shots from September, with some quick descriptions of what I did throughout the month!

I had a crazy stressful but also really fulfilling month that included starting my sophomore year at college, fashion week, parties, traveling to Duke, and so much more. You can check out my Instagram @sophielewis423 for all of my latest pictures, but I hope I can continue doing this each month just to share a few tidbits of what I have been up to!

So, it's been a really long time since I have written a blog post. I'm not sure why. I think it's mostly because I haven't been as interested in taking photos of my personal style recently, and I also haven't really been motivated to write anything down. That's why I have been keeping up with my YouTube channel; it's just so much easier for me to film a video of myself in my bedroom than to go out and have someone take pictures of me. But I don't want this blog to completely die off, especially because I am still super active on YouTube and it is nice to have this site as a culmination of all of my Internet things.

That being said, I have no idea how frequently I will post, although I have a feeling that I will start to post frequently when I go abroad next semester, as I will have so many amazing photos from all over Europe. I always liked keeping this blog as a sort of personal diary to look back on so I really want to continue documenting my life on here.

Moving on to what this post is actually about, I wanted to post a couple of pictures from Generation Beauty, which took place last weekend. Generation Beauty is a beauty convention hosted by Michelle Phan's company Ipsy, and it was basically a three day event for YouTubers to connect with companies and for fans of YouTube to meet the vloggers they watch. I think the most fun aspect of it was the creator pre-party. I met loads of people who I really admire and made some amazing friends within the community. We also got an INSANE swag bag full of products to test out and share with our viewers, which you can check out in the haul video I posted. The convention was also amazing, and the brands who were there were all really lovely and so sweet to the creators. I appreciated that there was no crazy fangirling at the event and no major security issues like there are at some other YouTube conventions. The whole weekend was really well put together.

Anyways, I'm not sure if anyone is around to still read these but I have enjoyed writing my thoughts a bit instead of speaking them like I do on my channel. I really want to get back into treating this like a personal diary, so I hope I will get back into documenting the events I go to, places I travel, favorite products, etc. See you soon!

Pastel Love

BCBGeneration dress, Zara heels, Dannijo bracelets and earrings

Hi everyone!

Wow I have not written a blog post in forever! I really have no excuse other than I haven't been feeling inspired to post anything.  I have been keeping up weekly on my YouTube channel though, so I thought I would post my latest get ready with me video along with some shots from last weekend.
My cousin got married at a beautiful location in Brooklyn, and I am actually obsessed with my outfit and makeup. I wore a sort of pastel floral pleated dress that was perfect for dancing in, pale blue platforms that I thought would be more comfortable than they were, and tons of jewelry from Dannijo (where I am an intern).  I went with a bright purple eye shadow and pink lip, and I really had fun getting ready. I usually stick to black and white, so this was quite bold for me. The wedding was so beautiful so I have included some pictures from my Instagram of the view from the warehouse where it took place. What have you been up to this summer?

A day in Brooklyn

Zara dress, Topshop sandals, Dannijo bracelet, Free People sunnies, Urban Outfitters bag

Whatchu lookin' at?

Hi everyone!

A few weeks ago, Mitchell and I went to the Brooklyn Bridge Park to celebrate our one year anniversary (he also took me to a fancy dinner and got me a Pamela Love ring but let's focus on Brooklyn for now).  It was the most gorgeous day ever, which was so lucky because it immediately went back to being freezing. We walked all around the park, got chocolate milkshakes at Shake Shack like tourists, and rode on the carousel (which is one of my favorite things ever).

It always astounds me that, despite living in NYC, I rarely leave my NYU bubble to explore the city properly.  I often make excuses that I'm too tired or have too much homework or that it's too cold, but I really want to experience new places as often as I can.  I definitely want to make more of these "A day in..." posts so that I can document the places I go to look back on in the future!  Let me know what you think of them. :)

72 Hours in Aruba

Hi everyone!

So if you follow me on social media you may know that last week I flew to Aruba for three days to surprise a bunch of people. I usually spend spring break in Aruba with my family and family friends (including my boyfriend), but this year my spring break wasn't at the same time as everyone else's, so I couldn't go.  But I wanted to surprise everyone and show up just for the weekend, as it was me and my boyfriend's one year anniversary.  The only person there who knew I was coming was my dad, and I really wish I had documented my moms face when I ran up behind her on the beach!

I didn't take many photos since I was there such a short amount of time, and most of that time was spent in the water, but I thought I would compile the few that I did take into this post for memory's sake. I also took my GoPro with me and shot a few things on that, so I edited a little vlog-y video.  I wish I could have stayed in Aruba for the whole week, but I am so glad that I was actually able to pull off the surprise.  It was my first time flying alone internationally, so it was certainly a big deal for me. I'll be going to Costa Rica over the summer, so hopefully I'll get even cooler GoPro footage then!

Have a great week :)

New In: GoPro Hero 4 Silver

Hi everyone!

I thought I would share some images of my new GoPro, as well as the first video I have filmed on it. I have wanted a GoPro for years, and I am so excited to finally be able to capture all of my travels.  I decided to start out with just two accessories: the chest harness (which seemed the most versatile) and a short, floating pole (which just makes holding the camera easier and will float if dropped in water).

On all of my NYU videos on YouTube, the most requested video I have been asked to film is a 'day in the life of an NYU student' video. I personally find it quite boring, but people apparently wanted to know all about my homework. It was a great opportunity to test out the new camera in a situation where there was no risk of me losing it, dropping it, missing something, etc. (as I could have on an adventurous vacation). The camera has a slight learning curve when using it with the app, but other than that I found it so easy and fun to play with. I can't wait to take my new camera on adventures! Shout out to my parents for this awesome birthday gift. :D

Hi everyone!

I wanted to do a quick post of my experience at Teen Vogue Fashion University.  I attended the event last year as well, although it was completely different this year since the Conde Nast headquarters moved to One World Trade Center.  I was in the Editorial/Social/PR major (the other majors were design/styling and business) and the speakers I saw were Michelle Phan (YouTuber), Black Frame PR, Kristen Joy Watts (fashion lead at Instagram), a panel of Teen Vogue Editors, Aliza Licht (@dkny), Mickey Rapkin (Writer of Pitch Perfect), and Erika Bearman (@oscarprgirl).

The lectures (seminars? classes? what do I call these?) involved learning about the experiences of the speaker, and then an open q & a to get advice about the industry.  I really enjoyed the speakers I saw, although I wish the questions were a bit more curated, as some were quite specific and therefore not beneficial for everyone. It was also a race to get the best seat possible, but other than that I had a great experience.

I think four of my speakers were from Long Island as well, so I definitely related to their stories.  Erika Bearman actually went to the same high school as my boyfriend, so that was a little bonding moment.  Michelle Phan was definitely another highlight, as she was super inspirational.  I have featured a video so you can see some of the advice that all of the speakers gave, so hopefully that provides some insight into the event.

The offices were beautiful, and I think the speakers highlighted an incredible range of jobs for the editorial/social/PR aspect of the industry.  Let me know in the comments if you have any questions about the experience!

Beauty Review: NYX Ultra Pearl Mania

NYX Cosmetics Ultra Pearl Mania in Pearl, Lilac, and Very Pink, $2.99 each from Ulta

Hi everyone!

I have another beauty review for you today.  I mentioned this product on my YouTube channel last month, and a lot of people wanted to know more about it. I personally haven't seen many pigments on the market other than those by Mac, which are quite pricey for a product that isn't really used on a daily basis.

This NYX pigment is the only one I have seen in the drugstore (I got mine from Ulta).  They are only $2.99, and when I picked mine up Ulta was having a buy one, get one 50% off all NYX products promotion, so they were super cheap.

For being so inexpensive, I think these are really high quality.  The color is very true to the bottle, and the formula is fine and shimmery.  The colors are highly pigmented, but only when mixed with a bit of water.  I have found adding water makes them last a bit longer without creasing, but they do eventually begin to crease after a long day (expected from a drugstore product). One other drawback is the size of the bottle; they are VERY small.

I would highly recommend this product to anyone wanting to play around with fun colors with little price commitment.  All of the colors (20 total) are beautiful and I am dying to get more of them and experiment with some fun makeup looks.

What do you guys think of pigments?  Do you have any recommendations?

A day in Chelsea

Tocca's Office // Balenciaga's Office // a funny card in Chelsea Market // a bajillion fairy lights in Chelsea Market // colorful spices in Chelsea Market // the view from outside Chelsea Piers

Hi everyone!

So I have decided to just kinda post whatever I want on here.  And I want to start documenting my life a bit more, so I have little memories to look back on. I take lots of pictures all the time and I never really do anything with them, so I am going to start posting more of them on here.  I hate that I have neglected this blog so much and I am excited to just post a bunch of random stuff.

So with that said, here are some random pictures of Chelsea from last month.  Chelsea is one of my favorite areas of the city, but its kind of annoying to get to from my dorm so I'm not there too often.  I was in Chelsea with my friend Cassidy last month visiting the offices of Tocca (which were right across from that of Balenciaga, so cool) to review their newest collection for the Washington Square News (NYU's student newspaper).  We walked around a bit afterward, and here are some cute shots from that.  People are always asking me on my YouTube channel to share more pictures of NYC, so hopefully you like this little set.  I can't wait to post more soon :)
