Snowpocalypse Inspiration

Hi there. I am here to talk about the unrelenting snow that has happened upon New York. We have had too many snow storms to count this winter and as I am typing this there is over a foot on the ground from monday and yesterday's storm, with another one coming  on sunday. I have had four snow days from school, including the one I am having right now and not including the one I will probably have next week.

And while I love days off of schools as much as the next girl, let me tell you, despite it's prettyness and stuff, it is really freaking hard to take blog pictures in the snow.  First of all, I can pretty much only wear Dr. Martens boots in this weather, which further limits my wardrobe and restricts the variety of outfit posts available for me.  Few sidewalks, backyards, fields, etc. are accessible to shoot in, and the blinding white of the snow reflects awkwardly in shots.  Because of these issues, I though I would return to a little series that I quite enjoy writing.

Every now and again I like to be witty here on this blog.  I have written two apocalypse-related inspiration posts in the past, the first being at the end of 2012, when "the world ended", and the second being in summer 2013, when the heat was almost unbearable.  And now, in the middle of my love-hate relationship with never-ending snow, I present the third installment: What To Do To During The Snowpocalypse.  Enjoy some tumblr inspiration, and you can follow my tumblr here.

Daydream about being this girl.  Because you're probably freezing right now.

Wear all white to blend in to your surroundings.  Maybe the snow will accept you as one of their own.

Most of your body heat escapes from your head, so wear a beanie.

Get some sunglasses.  You need protection from the blinding white snow.

Drink plenty of hot liquids to ensure your body temperature remains normal.

Your chairs are probably feeling a bit chilled as well, so make sure to warm them up with jackets and fur.

You're stuck in the house; might as well get some work done.

You're probably bored out of your mind (I know I am), so get some reading done.  I suggest John Green.

Light some candles because like I said earlier, you're probably freaking freezing.

Escape to a city.  They trap heat due to the Heat Island Effect (shout out to my science teacher) and are likely to be a few degrees warmer than the suburbs.

Grow your hair out as long as possible for extra warmth.

Backpacks are an essential for any apocalypse.

Find a cute boy with a big jacket and cuddle with him (purely for warmth of course).  Here we have Finn and Jack Harries looking irresistible.

Wear lots of black makeup to represent your current mood.

If possible, just stay in bed all day.

These conditions call for sweatpants and sweaters.

Pretty sure Dr. Martens are the only shoes I own that can be worn outside in the current conditions.  I suggest investing in a pair.

So there you have it; everything you will need to eat, wear, and do in order to survive the winter 2014 apocalypse: the snowstorm.  Personally, I kind of like this weather, but I know most of you are probably wishing you were in Australia on summer break right now, so I hope you enjoyed these little tips for staying warm.

Enjoy the snow;)

Thursday Inspiration: Black and White

Sometimes I just have those weeks when I don't have time or the weather is not cooperating to take outfit shots and I have mountains of school work and after school activities and tests and my job and stress and ugh I just need a few hours to mindlessly browse Tumblr in search of inspiration to so something, anything.

I am having one of those weeks…months…years, whatever, so I took to Tumblr.  And what I noticed is that a large majority of my reblogs have been black and white recently.  There is just something so calming about b&w that has really been helping me these past few weeks.  And so here I am sharing them with you, because it has been snowing here in New York and the conditions just really don't make for good outfit shots.  Enjoy this random mix of photos and you can check out my tumblr here

Hope this inspired some of you or at least successfully distracted you for five minutes, which everyone needs sometimes:)

It's The End Of The World As We Know It

Back in december, I made a blog post with inspirational pictures from my Pinterest page that could possibly help anyone reading to survive the inevitable Mayan-mandated apocalypse.  I obviously meant the post to be funny and sarcastic (each picture caption incorporated a different apocalypse conspiracy), and the post got great feedback.  Seeing that I didn't have a second to take outfit pictures this week, I thought it was time to make a sort of part II to that post, this time surrounding the current disgusting heat wave hitting New York these past few weeks.

I tend to believe most global warming theories, because clearly the Earth is rebelling against us.  There have been hurricanes and earthquakes and sink holes and thunder and extreme heat and obviously there is a bigger problem going on.  For the past few weeks, the New York area has been experiencing extreme humidity and heat, with mostly rain and thunderstorms or, on certain days, non-stop blinding sun that threatens to melt my entire body into a pool of soup on the streets.  I like to think that the Earth is currently in an infinite state of PMS and is actively trying to get revenge on the human population for putting it through the most heart-wrenching relationship it has ever been in, much like an attention-seeking teenage girl.

I now present to you some fashion inspiration from my Tumblr page that may (or, more likely, may not) help you to survive this month's apocalyspe of sorts: the heat wave.

Blow bubbles.  Because you can be as random as you want in this heat and still get away with it.

Find a body of water that resembles these ones and just live there for a while.

Don't let the heat stop you from checking your twitter, because nothing is more important.

Wearing your hair up is really the only survivable style in a heat apocalypse, so try a chic braided style to distract from the fact that you're melting.

For the next couple of weeks you should probably just stick to an all-ice cream diet until things calm down.

Hide behind tall buildings to block the sun.

Buy a large hat to be fashionable and block out the deadly UV rays.

If you insist on dressing up, I suggest a dress made of almost no fabric.

A slicked back hair style for those who are too insecure to wear a full on up-do like myself.

It gets colder as the altitude increases, so I suggest just chilling on a roof somewhere.

If possible, find the nearest body of water and transform into a mermaid until summer's over.

You are probably going to be quite hot and sweaty, so pick up as many flowers as you can on your way home so people will still want to be near you.

Walking is basically impossible in this heat, so always take a taxi.

Jelly shoes will not only bring back your 90's nostalgia, but are also protected against sweat, dirt, and melting skin.

Another shoe option is a pair of white sneakers to deflect the sun and help you to run to the nearest air conditioned building quickly.

Overalls are the go-to for any apocalypse related event and heat waves are no exception.

In this heat it is important to release your anger while ironically wearing a 'smile' shirt.

On really hot days, you probably won't even have the effort to change out of your pajamas, so just go out in them.  Trust me, everyone is doing it.

Cutouts are important to release excess heat from your overheated body.

So there you have it; everything you will need to wear, eat, and do in order to survive the summer 2013 apocalyspe: the heat wave.  If you are reading this from somehwere in the world that is currently experiencing colder temperatures, these tips may not help, but please come here and take me back with you!

Hope you are having a great week!
