Texture and Anniversaries

H&M dress and sweater, August hat (from Bloomingdales), Urban Outfitters bag, Dr. Martens boots

I have spoken in the past about my love for mixing textures rather than colors, and it seems to be one of the only constants in my wardrobe as my style has changed over the last few years.  I prefer wearing monochrome, or in this case black and white, outfits with contrasting fabrics.  This outfit includes patent leather, distressed leather, cotton, felt, metal, and whatever shaggy material this sweater is made of (the softest fabric in the world, basically). This is another one of my go-to fall outfits, and the third one to be featured in my upcoming lookbook video on my YouTube channel.

Also, it was just the second anniversary of this blog! I cannot believe I have had it for two years already; that seems crazy.  Thanks to everyone who has supported me and continues to support me, it means the world :)

#BeautyConNYC

Mink Pink romper, Francesca's cardigan, Madewell flats, bag, bobby pins, long necklace and bracelets, House of Harlow 1960 starburst necklace, Marc by Marc Jacobs watch

#BeautyConNYC!

Me with Sierra from the youtube channel sierramariemakeup!  She was so shy and grateful when I met her it was lovely to see someone so humble.

Me with Mia from the youtube channel mammamiamakeup! She and Sierra were both so chill about meeting us it was so great.

Me with Claudia (beyondbeautystar) and Allie (alliemarieevans)! These girls were so sweet! We had a mini photoshoot, and the four photos they took were made into a gif.

Me with Fleur from the youtube channel fleurdeforce! Fleur was one of the people I most wanted to meet that day and she totally lived up to my expectations. She was incredibly nice (and has the best sounding British accent EVER) and we chatted for minute about me wanting to study abroad in London!

Me with Arden from the youtube channel arose186!  Arden was hilarious and was handling the mini crowd surrounding her so well.  We obsessed over her Dailylook outfit together; she was just as funny in person as in her videos.

Me with Lauren from the youtube channel laurdiy!  I have made a few of the DIY projects from Lauren's channel and was determined to meet her. She has interacted with me a bunch through twitter, tumblr, and youtube, and so I already knew she would be super nice! We talked for a minute about one of her DIY's that I made and she was just super cute.

Oops it's been two weeks; I'm just going to keep blaming school until I can no longer do so.  I have been exceptionally busy lately, but one thing I was super excited for was BeautyCon NYC.  BeautyCon is basically a makeup convention where thousands of beauty junkies gather together to celebrate beauty, buy makeup, watch panels, and meet some of their favorite beauty gurus from YouTube. The event was held at Pier 36 on the lower east side of Manhattan, and it was such a fun day!  For me, it mostly consisted of meeting some of my favorite beauty youtubers, watching panels, eating, and trying out makeup products; what more could you ask for really?

The first set of pictures is what I wore to the event. It was absolutely imperative that I be as comfortable as possible, seeing as my day would span around 12 hours total, about 9 of which I was on my feet for.  A romper seemed obvious as they are just about the easiest way to look like you put effort into your outfit when you really did nothing, I needed the Madewell bag to hold my shnazzy Canon camera (I realized upon arrival that I had left the SD card sitting on my desk because I am a genius), and the wedge sneakers/change of flats were necessary for a day of standing in endless lines.

I thought I would also include some shots from the event. I got to meet some of my favorite beauty youtubers, including Claudia (beyondbeautystar), Allie (alliemarieevans), Sierra (sierramariemakeup), Mia (mammamiamakeup), Arden (arose186), Lauren (laurdiy), and Fleur (fleurdeforce). I also watched a really interesting panel called "The Rise of Digital Influence" that was hosted by Elle's creative director Joe Zee and included a bunch of youtubers and bloggers.  I loved hearing what Kandee Johnson had to say about staying true to yourself and not allowing online bullies control your life.  Also at the convention were areas set up for Style Haul, Elle, Boohoo, NYX, Tarte, Bare Minerals, Wildflower cases, and loads of other little accessory and makeup stations.  There was also a dj and dance floor, and food trucks which were soooooo yummy. Overall the event was really well put together and I would love to go back next year!

If you would like to see a video all about my Beauty Con experience, there is one right here on my youtube channel! Were any of you at Beauty Con? What did you think of it? Let me know!

Short Story

Urban Outfitters tee and shorts, Jeffery Campbell sandals, Marc by Marc Jacobs watch, Topshop rings, Madewell sunnies and bobby pins

I'm going to stick to the title and keep this short; AP exams are currently happening, I'm exhausted, there is no way I can write a coherent blog post right now, and here is an outfit that I really enjoyed wearing!  First shorts of the season, which is making me so excited. Hope you are all doing well:)

Floral and Lace

LF sweater, Free People jeans, Windsor booties, Lionette NY necklace, Urban Outfitters bag, Madewell sunglasses and bobby pin, Marc by Marc Jacobs watch

I couldn't pass up the opportunity to shoot these on an actual patch of grass that emerged from the snow; I thought I would never see green again! This is one of my sort of go-to school outfits when I can't think of what to wear. Floral and lace are two of my favorite combos, and Free People makes the softest jeans.  I love that these have a cooler, more winter-y floral pattern than a typical spring floral. Hope you are all having a great week:)

Let's Try Something New: Dark Lips

Madewell tee and sunnies, Free People corduroy jeans, Superga sneakers, Topshop jacket, beanie and rings, and Lionette NY necklace

I am one of those people who absolutely despises when anything changes.  I don't like starting a new school year, a new job, a new tv show. I don't even like changing the way things are organized in my room. I just like to stick to the old, the comfortable, the method of living that I know won't have a negative outcome.  Now, changing a lipstick color doesn't exactly seem like an extreme change, but considering I absolutely despised lipstick until about last year and since then have only worn neutral shades, this might as well be a complete life overhaul for me.

Seeing as this is new territory, I made sure to do my research.  I read a lot of blog posts and watched a lot of videos on how to wear a dark lip, and I found a lot of conflicting opinions. One of the most helpful was Michelle Phan's video on dark lips for different skin tones. However, I was still cautious, so I decided to go for a drug store brand instead of a more high end product in case something went horribly wrong.  I ended up mixing together Maybelline's Super Stay 14 Hour lipstick #100 'Wine and Forever' and Maybelline's Color Whisper #85 'Berry Ready'.

Against my mother's wishes (which she knew I would completely ignore anyway), I wore the lipstick to school last week with this exact outfit and actually got a lot of compliments.  I think I might even wear it out again.  I would say, overall, my dark lips experiment was a success.  Have you tried anything new lately?

Smile Like You Mean It

Vintage Havana top, Topshop dress (worn underneath top), Madewell sandals and sunnies, Michael Kors watch

With summer at it's midpoint, I realized the other day how happy and relaxed I am.  So I just wanted to wear something that made me smile even more, and I can never say no to a great floral print and my favorite color-purple.  I am also super into the reflective sunnies trend, and I like this slightly more subtle pair.  I got all dolled up-I even did my hair and makeup.  That's right; I finally got off my lazy butt and straightened my hair.  I know; you're just as shocked as I am.  It took a lot of hardship, blood, sweat, and tears, but after a half hour of washing, forty minutes of blow drying, and two hours of ironing (with an ice cream break to cool off, of course), I have finally tamed my hair for the first time in months.  And despite these pictures-which I am actually really happy with-I don't think I will be putting in the effort again any time soon.

Of course, the day after these photos were taken, just as I was starting to relax and enjoy my summer, my schedule for my final year of high school was released and a new wave of stress and emotion has once again overwhelmed me.  Tomorrow, the common application-used to apply to the majority of universities in America-is being released, so I will probably spend all of august holed up in my room writing essays and freaking out.

Despite the sudden stress, I had a really nice and relaxing July that has put a genuine smile on my face for the first time in a while.  I only hope august will go as smoothly.  How are your summers going?
