The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Story time!

On today's installment of "The Tragic Adventures of Sophie in High School" we shall discuss my first major wardrobe malfunction!  Good times will be had by all throughout this post.

So, it all started last Wednesday, a beautfiul spring day (straying away from the constant freezing snow, which is now back by the way).  Due to this break in the frigid winter we have been having, I decided to go full-out spring with my outfit: full-skirted dress, lace, flats, the whole nine yards, despite the fact that I had gym that day (hashtag the struggle).  I really should not have even been wearing the dress because it is almost two years old and not on trend anymore (it was very popular back when Taylor Swift wore it all over the world), but I just can't bear to part with it.  Fast forward to fourth period, the hour of my tragedy.

I was already having a particularly horrible day full of tests and grades and annoyances, and now I was having to play pickle-ball (not even a real sport) in gym class (sorry, P.E.).  My gym teacher is known in my school for not letting you leave the gym until there is only like 30 seconds left in the period.  This leaves me with a particularly disheartening situation of not having enough time to race back to the locker room, change into my normal dressy clothes, and get to my next period on time.  Now, maybe this is me being a little selfish, as I am pretty much the only person that has to change for gym, because I am the only person who actually dresses up for school.  But, either way, it is a difficult situation.

My gym teacher let us out particularly late on Wednesday, and I had a particularly difficult outfit to change into, as I was so stubborn in wearing a dress because of the weather.  I was in such a rush to change that I completely broke the zipper on my dress (an expensive Rebecca Taylor number by the way), and had a complete meltdown based on the question of what I was to wear for the rest of the day.  I ended up leaving on my gym clothes and racing over to our family and consumer sciences room to where (luckily) the sewing teacher was holding her class.  I spent the next hour and a half with her, desperately trying to fix my zipper, but our efforts were no use.  She proclaimed the zipper to be "industrial strength.  The most stubborn and well-made zipper I have ever seen in my life!", and I was super upset, obviously.

Because I am me and I could not walk around the rest of the day in my gym clothes, I had the sewing teacher safety pin me into my dress (which was covered my a top) and spent the rest of the day trying not to breath out too hard so not to rupture a safety pin, causing my dress to fall off (it's strapless).

So there you have it folks; my most horrifying wardrobe malfunction to date.  No doubt there will be several more in my future, but I just had to share this one with you as it was my first and, in my mind, probobly the most traumatizing one my high school has ever faced.  I hope I didn't bore you too much with this and without further adieu, I present the outfit that started it all:

Madewell lace top, chambray top, and flats, Rebecca Taylor dress, Marc by Marc Jacobs watch and daisy perfume ring.

In case you were wondering, the dress is currently serving jail time with my seamstress, hopefully learning its lesson as she attempts to salvage its rebelious zipper.  I will keep you updated on the outcome (just kidding, unless you want me to, in which case you are welcome to hear all of the details).

Hope you all had a great Monday, and a better Wednesday than I had!

Incognito

In honor of the fact that I am (again) learning about World War I in my AP US History class, I decided to wear camouflage! I don't wear it very much, but it was just so cozy, I couldn't refuse when it called to me from my closet (don't look at me like I'm crazy for talking to my clothes!). Sorry that these photos are really sunny; we had another snow storm here in New York last Friday and the reflection makes everything blindingly bright.  The snow is almost melted though so fingers crossed we don't get another storm and my pictures will be a little easier to look at.

I almost always wear bright colors, so this outfit is a little different for me.  What do you think?

Hope everyone had a great monday!

Mixing Textures

I feel so bad that I have only been posting once a week lately, but school is so tough right now, and the weather has been so uncooperative, that I just haven't had the time or ability to take outfit shots or collage photos.  I am hoping after spring break I can get back into posting a few times a week.

Anyway, it was pouring last Thursday, which always presents an issue clothing-wise.  The majority of my shoes are leather or suede, so I finally got a pair of Hunter rain boots a few months ago which have saved my precious shoes from being destroyed.  Also, you may note from most of my posts that I am not a big jacket-wearer.  Never have been.  I always find them uncomfortable and overly warm.  But I always try to buy one light jacket a year to prevent the stares that would ensue if I showed up to school in a tee shirt in 30 degree weather and no jacket.  My jacket this year is sort-of waterproof, so it was perfect for the downpours all last week.

I love contrasting textures (as opposed to prints).  This outfit consists of wool, leather, plastic, metal, corduroy, and rubber. I think it creates a much more interesting look then just using the same fabric head to toe. Enjoy:)

Hope everyone had a nice Monday.  I am going on a school trip for a business competition tomorrow so wish me luck!
