Generation Beauty NYC

At the creator pre-party! My dress is Free People

At the pre-party with Katherine!

At the convention with Megs, Russia, and Adyel

Everyone at the pre-party!

Some of the products I got!

So, it's been a really long time since I have written a blog post. I'm not sure why. I think it's mostly because I haven't been as interested in taking photos of my personal style recently, and I also haven't really been motivated to write anything down. That's why I have been keeping up with my YouTube channel; it's just so much easier for me to film a video of myself in my bedroom than to go out and have someone take pictures of me. But I don't want this blog to completely die off, especially because I am still super active on YouTube and it is nice to have this site as a culmination of all of my Internet things.

That being said, I have no idea how frequently I will post, although I have a feeling that I will start to post frequently when I go abroad next semester, as I will have so many amazing photos from all over Europe. I always liked keeping this blog as a sort of personal diary to look back on so I really want to continue documenting my life on here.

Moving on to what this post is actually about, I wanted to post a couple of pictures from Generation Beauty, which took place last weekend. Generation Beauty is a beauty convention hosted by Michelle Phan's company Ipsy, and it was basically a three day event for YouTubers to connect with companies and for fans of YouTube to meet the vloggers they watch. I think the most fun aspect of it was the creator pre-party. I met loads of people who I really admire and made some amazing friends within the community. We also got an INSANE swag bag full of products to test out and share with our viewers, which you can check out in the haul video I posted. The convention was also amazing, and the brands who were there were all really lovely and so sweet to the creators. I appreciated that there was no crazy fangirling at the event and no major security issues like there are at some other YouTube conventions. The whole weekend was really well put together.

Anyways, I'm not sure if anyone is around to still read these but I have enjoyed writing my thoughts a bit instead of speaking them like I do on my channel. I really want to get back into treating this like a personal diary, so I hope I will get back into documenting the events I go to, places I travel, favorite products, etc. See you soon!

xx, Sophie

Pastel Love

BCBGeneration dress, Zara heels, Dannijo bracelets and earrings

Hi everyone!

Wow I have not written a blog post in forever! I really have no excuse other than I haven't been feeling inspired to post anything.  I have been keeping up weekly on my YouTube channel though, so I thought I would post my latest get ready with me video along with some shots from last weekend.
My cousin got married at a beautiful location in Brooklyn, and I am actually obsessed with my outfit and makeup. I wore a sort of pastel floral pleated dress that was perfect for dancing in, pale blue platforms that I thought would be more comfortable than they were, and tons of jewelry from Dannijo (where I am an intern).  I went with a bright purple eye shadow and pink lip, and I really had fun getting ready. I usually stick to black and white, so this was quite bold for me. The wedding was so beautiful so I have included some pictures from my Instagram of the view from the warehouse where it took place. What have you been up to this summer?

Beauty Review: NYX Ultra Pearl Mania

NYX Cosmetics Ultra Pearl Mania in Pearl, Lilac, and Very Pink, $2.99 each from Ulta

Hi everyone!

I have another beauty review for you today.  I mentioned this product on my YouTube channel last month, and a lot of people wanted to know more about it. I personally haven't seen many pigments on the market other than those by Mac, which are quite pricey for a product that isn't really used on a daily basis.

This NYX pigment is the only one I have seen in the drugstore (I got mine from Ulta).  They are only $2.99, and when I picked mine up Ulta was having a buy one, get one 50% off all NYX products promotion, so they were super cheap.

For being so inexpensive, I think these are really high quality.  The color is very true to the bottle, and the formula is fine and shimmery.  The colors are highly pigmented, but only when mixed with a bit of water.  I have found adding water makes them last a bit longer without creasing, but they do eventually begin to crease after a long day (expected from a drugstore product). One other drawback is the size of the bottle; they are VERY small.

I would highly recommend this product to anyone wanting to play around with fun colors with little price commitment.  All of the colors (20 total) are beautiful and I am dying to get more of them and experiment with some fun makeup looks.

What do you guys think of pigments?  Do you have any recommendations?

New York Fashion Week

Lincoln Center

At Milk Studios for Ohne Titel

Some looks from Ohne Titel

Some looks from Nicole Miller

Me and Frankie Grande (Ariana Grande's brother) at the Nicole Miller show

Some looks from Carmen Marc Valvo

Hi everyone!

People are always asking me about fashion week, so I thought I would make a post and a video about it!

If you don't know, I am the beauty/style editor for the Washington Square News, NYU's student newspaper.  We were able to get tickets to about 75 shows, and we sent photographers and writers to each one.  I spent most of my time editing and posting articles, but I did attend three shows myself: Ohne Titel, Nicole Miller, and Carmen Marc Valvo.  I had so much fun (especially sitting front row for two of the shows), but it has been so nice to relax this past week now that it's all over.

What did you think of nyfw? Check out NYU's coverage here!

Beauty Review: NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams

NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams from left to right: Istanbul, Milan, Prague, Monte Carlo, Copenhagen; $5.99 at Ulta

Hi everyone!

So I wanted to try out something a bit different this week.  I don't think I have ever actually posted a beauty post on this blog, but if any of you follow me over on YouTube, I do loads of beauty videos on there.  I wanted to try out beauty blogging because when I'm at school it is really hard to do outfit posts, because there isn't anyone here to take pictures of me and most days I am just too busy.  Beauty shots are a bit easier because I can set them up myself right from my dorm room.  So I thought I would start doing some beauty reviews, etc. in written form.  I have had some requests for this type of post over on my YouTube channel, so hopefully it is helpful!

I am starting out my beauty blogging adventure with the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams.  If you watch my videos, you will now that NYX is by far my favorite drugstore brand; I am absolutely obsessed and they are so affordable.  Recently I have been trying these lippies instead of my go to NYX Butter Glosses because I am loving matte at the moment, and I really have a hard time committing to expensive lip products because I change them up quite frequently.

These lip creams are creamy when you put them on, but in about 15 minutes they are completely dry and have incredible staying power.  They last me the entire day with little to no reapplication.  The one complaint I have about this product is that the color on the tube is often very misleading.  The first one I ever picked up was the shade Milan, which I thought was going to be a neutral pink, but actually shows up as hot pink on my lips.  I have found that most of the colors are like this, but looking up swatches online has certainly helped.  My current favorite is Copenhagen, which is the perfect winter-y purple shade.  I love playing around with fun colors with these products, but not having to feel bad if they aren't my favorite shades because of the price.  Overall, I think these are amazing quality for a drugstore product, and I highly recommend them.  They also smell fantastic, an added bonus!

I hope you guys are ok with me switching things up a bit and including more of a range of posts on here, see you soon :)

Dark Lips

Madewell sweater, LF skirt, Sam Edelman booties, August hat (from Bloomingdales), Dannijo bracelet, NYX Copenhagen on lips

Ah the return of The Dark Lip.  My family hates hit, my boyfriend hates it, but I think it's absolutely stunning.  I instantly feel edgier and more put together, and this one from NYX stays on all day long.  I continued the purple theme with this cool sweater from Madewell that has zippers on the side, a nice touch that allows it to be worn with my favorite leather skirt. This my fourth and final go-to outfit for fall, and that means my next blog post will feature my first ever fall lookbook video! See ya Tuesday ;)

NYC

Anthropologie top, Free People jeans, Sam Edelman booties, Madewell bag and bracelet, Urban Outfitters necklace

So, uh, hi. Hey there. Hello. What's up? How are you? Long time no blog.

Just to catch you up since we last spoke, I now live in New York City. I live right near this park where these photos were taken. And they were taken by my lovely boyfriend when he came to visit me last weekend at school (I go to NYU by the way). For the last two months I have spent most of my time in the library, but I have also been working on my YouTube channel as much as I can while at school. So that's been my life (thrilling, I know), how are you doing?

This has been my go-to fall outfit the last few weeks, as it is freezing in the morning and insanely hot by the afternoon.  This is the first of four blog posts that will lead up to a super awesome lookbook video I'm working on, so I hope you guys are excited for that! I'll speak to you soon (I promise this time).

Back to School

Madewell top
Free People shorts
Topshop shoes
Rebecca Minkoff bag
Alex and Ani bracelets
Madewell necklace
Chloe sunglasses

I've literally been dreading writing this blog post because it is the last one I will write before heading back to school.  I am definitely one of those typical teenagers that absolutely hates going back to school and would rather be doing anything else.  But this year it's a bit different.  This year, I am starting college.  In three days I am moving to New York City and starting my first year at NYU.  That was a scary sentence.  Of course I'm excited, but I don't think I'm really going to let myself be too enthusiastic until everything has settled and I have gotten through my first week of classes.  I'm just too nervous! However, something that calms my nerves slightly is knowing what I will be wearing on the first day; one less thing to worry about.

The first week of september is basically still the middle of summer so I've opted for shorts and an airy tank top.  These faux Birkenstocks are pretty much the most comfortable shoes in existence, perfect for my 10 minute walk from my dorm on Union Square to my classes on Washington Square Park.  And it is absolutely essential that I still feel like myself with all this change going on, so I've piled on the gold jewelry.  I also made a video on my back to school hair, makeup, and outfit that I've inserted above, or you can watch here

Wow writing this blog post hasn't calmed my nerves at all.  See you on the other side!
